IMPORTANT VACATION & SUMMER SCHEDULING ANNOUNCEMENT

Several IHSA proposals were recently approved that will significantly impact the summer schedule and start of the football season. We want to make sure families are aware as early as possible so summer plans can be adjusted accordingly.

1️⃣ Expanded IHSA Playoffs

The IHSA has expanded the football playoffs by 16 schools in each class.
As a result:
• Week 1 of the regular season will be played one week earlier
• What was previously Week 0 (scrimmage week) will now be Week 1
• Football practice will also begin one week earlier than in past years

2️⃣ Change to IHSA Dead Week

The IHSA has also moved Dead Week:
• Official Dead Week: June 29 – July 5, 2026
• This aligns with 4th of July week
• The week that was previously considered “dead week” in August will now be the start of football activities due to the earlier season start

⚠️ Important for Families

We want to strongly emphasize the impact on summer vacations and family planning. With practices and games beginning earlier, families should take these changes into account when scheduling trips or commitments.

More detailed schedules and expectations will be shared as we get closer, but we wanted to communicate these changes as early as possible so everyone can plan ahead.

If you have questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
