As of this evening, the district has verified two COVID outbreaks (as defined by IDPH as 2 or more linked positive cases) at Hedding Grade School. The outbreaks are found in Grade 3 and Kindergarten. As of tonight, Hedding will operate as normal on Monday. If your student exhibits symptoms over the weekend, please get tested.

Reminder: 11:35 dismissal tomorrow, Friday, October 22. Buses will pick up at Hedding around 11:45.

There will be no PM PreK tomorrow, October 22 as there is an early dismissal for School Improvement Activities. AM PreK will attend and dismiss at 10:45 as usual.

No Kid Hungry recently released a toolkit for schools about the new Child Tax Credit (CTC): families need to be enrolled by November 15.

This provision was passed with the COVID relief bills earlier this year and has significant changes from the old child tax credit. The value has increased, families don’t need any income to receive it, and it comes as a monthly payment to families to give support throughout the year instead of just in April.
Economists estimate that this new tax credit will cut child poverty in half in the U.S. But many families don’t know about it, or don’t know that they are still eligible even if they didn’t file their taxes last year. That’s why it’s so important to get the word out.
Right now the tax credit is temporary and is set to expire next year, but permanent authorization is one of the policy goals we are fighting for right now. I hope you find the tool kit useful and please feel free to share it widely!

Important Homecoming Parade Information
PK-8 Students from both Abingdon and Avon who are not participating in the parade will watch the parade on Latimer Street in front of Hedding Grade School. The parade starts at 2 p.m. Students will be supervised while watching the parade and may bring home candy that is thrown, but for safety purposes, will not be allowed to run into the street to pick up candy.
After the parade, which will be between 2:30-2:45, Avon students will board the Avon buses, ride to the high school to pick up Avon high school students and then head to Avon. As such, Avon students may arrive at the Avon campus earlier than they normally would, approximately 3:15-3:30.
Abingdon bus students will be picked up from Hedding at 3 p.m. They will be arriving home earlier than a typical day as well. Students who are picked up or walk home will be dismissed at the regular time of 3:20. If you would like to pick your child up earlier than 3:20, please come to the Hedding office or call the Hedding office at 462-2363 to let us know.
As a reminder, students who are participating in the parade will be dismissed at 1:30 p.m. out the front doors of Hedding. Students will not be allowed to leave unless we have a note from a parent. If you only signed a permission slip for your child to be in the parade with the organization with which they are participating, he/she will not be allowed to leave unless we also have the signed permission form or a note here at Hedding.
Students who leave Hedding to participate in the parade should not return to Hedding after the parade. Transportation to home from the high school, for any student who has participated in the parade, must be arranged by a parent/guardian.

Outbreak number two is found on Bus #2. The district, Hedding, and bus #2 will still operate daily. If you have a child that exhibits symptoms, please have them tested. We are seeing a spike in initial allergy-like symptoms that have progressed and led to COVID positive results. If you have concerns, contact your school office/nurse Monday.
